Why do you need disc cutters for car scrappage?

Disc cutters in scrappage are an essential tool for dismantling cars. In many cases, connectors have fused together so it is easier to dismantle a car with a disc cutter. 

If you have ever visited our yard in Sudbury, you will know we need a lot of space for scrapping cars. So, if we are working at one end of the yard, there is no reliable, convenient power source to use a corded disc cutter. Therefore we had to rely on cordless cutters, in which the petrol-powered versions were the most useful.

What are the benefits of moving away from petrol-operated tools?

The main benefit of switching from petrol to electric-powered tools is that you can simply switch off an electric tool when it is idling, then switch it back on when you are ready to use it. 

A petrol-powered tool needs to be turned on using a pull cord. This takes time and energy, once it is going then the petrol tool usually stays on for the duration you are using it. So, in some cases will remain idle, yet use petrol, for over one hour. 

Other benefits of using battery-powered tools vs petrol:

  • Easy to use: As mentioned above, petrol tools need a pull cord to work.
  • Quieter: Electric tools don’t produce a lot of noise when in use.
  • Vibrations: Our operators have to deal with fewer vibrations as there are fewer moving parts.
  • Environment: Small petrol engines are not efficient so exhaust harmful gasses.
